I should imagine you have seen the advertisement on the TV about the charity ‘Help for Heroes’. A fantastic charity that helps our troops when they need it most, ensuring that they are cared for with respect and dignity, helping to re-build their lives and allowing them to move forward with the next chapter of their lives. The Commanding Officer of 104th Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers), Lieutenant Colonel CS Butcher RA, came up with the idea some 6 months ago – to put on a dinner to raise money for both the ‘Help for Heroes’ charity and the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF). |

On Friday 3 April 2009, the Millennium Plaza opened its doors to welcome people from all walks of Industry, Sport, Entertainment, Fundraising and the MOD, to come together for one evening of good food, good company and for a good cause. Principal guests included: Tables were purchased and supported by the following companies and institutions: The evening began in the Plaza with drinks and light conversation with the guests entertained by the band of the 3rd Battalion the Royal Welsh, followed by ceremonial gunfire from the guns of 104th Regiment RA (V). Dinner was served in one of the Stadium’s suites, surrounded by the silver, history and ceremony of the army’s finest dining. Guests were also entertained throughout dinner with gentle background, yet stirring music, from the band of the 3rd Battalion the Royal Welsh. An auction following dinner helped to finish off the night perfectly with items for auction including rugby tickets for all Welsh Autumn Internationals, Joe Calzaghe signed gloves and Tickets to see Rob Brydon. The evening and the event were an amazing success with money raised reaching the amazing figure of £8,000.00 |
