This year is the 150th celebration of the Cadet Force Movement and we are celebrating in style with The Sea Cadet Corps, The Army Cadet Force, The Air Training Corps and The Combined Cadet Force.

Sponsored and supported by the Ministry of Defence, they are voluntary youth organisations that aim to provide challenging and enjoyable activities for young people living in the UK and certain locations abroad, and to better prepare them for their role in the community.

Cadets have the opportunity to learn new skills and engage in adventurous activities in disciplined and well-structured organisations.  They can also work towards a range of qualifications based on their achievements.

Starting at 1.30 pm in the centre of Brecon, a town with an amazing military history, approximately 140 cadets representing every service marched through the town past the Brecon Guildhall.  Marching Bands, Traditional Naval Guns and Cadet Force Units with their banners flying!

After the parade, the audience followed the cadets to the Theatr Brycheiniog where they had the opportunity to see them canoe on the canal, climb the climbing wall and watch as a helicopter descended for everyone to get up close.

The day ended with a Gala Concert in Theatr Brycheiniog: The Rorke’s Drift Concert.

Appearing with the Regimental Band of Gwent and the Powys Army Cadet Force were the Bands of Glamorgan, Cumbria, Kent, Shropshire and Hampshire Army Cadet Force.  Members of the Music Flight of the Devon and Somerset Air training Corps made their first visit to Wales, celebrating their first anniversary in music.

Special guests with their Cadet Band from Berkshire amazed the audience with their duet on a Xylophone and there were some very special, fantastic and emotional moments as the massed ranks were joined in the finale of the stunning Tchaikovsky Overture 1812 by the Moscow Militia.  These Soldiers, dressed in the style of Russian soldiers who took part in the defence of Moscow against the armies of Napoleon fired their muskets out over the auditorium during this great finale making sure we really did launch of our 150th year celebrations with a bang!
