The Regimental Band of The Royal Welsh
|
|
The Regimental Band of the Royal Welsh has a versatility and style of repertoire which is both unique and highly popular and whether on parade as a marching band or on the concert platform, their playing, marching and singing portrays that musical quality for which the band is renowned throughout Wales.
The band is the last surviving all brass band left within British Army Music and on many outside engagements the band is enhanced by the presence of The Corps of Drums of the Royal Welsh Regiment who, with their own inimitable style and expertise, always add the final polish to any performance.
The Band has continued to play at many major sporting events, in particular during the Rugby Six Nation championship matches and other major sporting events at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, and have been greatly appreciated by rugby spectators across the world.

The band have made many television appearances and have travelled abroad extensively including Belgium, Germany and France with their most recent tours to Australia in 2007 and Canada in 2009.
They have also had the privilege to play on many occasions for our very own Royal Family in many other parts of the British Isles.
The Band and Drums are very active in supporting the service charities and are involved with a variety of other activities both civil and commercial representing their Regiment, the Army and the people of Wales.

The versatility and range of engagements for which the band performs is seen in the many combinations that are used, whether with an immaculate marching display to add colour and spectacle to any event or with a concert band which is extremely popular with audiences of all ages and has many fine soloists.
The Band is also extremely proud of their choir which can entertain in many different styles; they particularly enjoy expressing their heritage through their large repertoire of traditional Welsh airs.
The Regimental Band of the Royal Welsh also has a Fanfare Team consisting of four trumpeters which have played for many different occasions including royal visits, state visits, sporting occasions, opening ceremonies and personal occasions such as weddings, birthdays and anniversaries.

The Corps of Drums as is seen today evolved as a result of an amalgamation on 1st July 1999 between the 3rd Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers (Volunteers) and the 2nd Batalion Royal Regiment of Wales (Volunteers).
The Corps is split into a North/South divide with both retaining their own 'old' Regimental cap badges and you may also notice the Ceremonial Pioneers with their white aprons, which along with the Regimental Goats, accompany the Corps of Drums on Ceremonial occasions.
The Band of the Royal Welsh Regiment together with the Corps of Drums (South) is based at Raglan Barracks, Newport with the Corps of Drums (North) based in Wrexham.
