104 Regiment Royal Artillery
104th Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers) came into existence on 1st April 1967 as a result of the establishment of the Territorial Army and Volunteer Reserve which was the replacement for the traditional Territorial Army.
With 217 Battery (Regimental Headquarters) in Newport, the Regiment was originally comprised of 210 Battery in Wolverhampton and 211 Battery in Newport.

The Regimental Headquarters was formed from HQ CRA 53rd Welsh Division, 210 Battery was formed from 444 Light Air Defence Regiment and 211 Battery can trace its history back to the amalgamation of two Welsh Artillery Regiments: 282 Field Regiment and 638 Light Air Defence Regiment.
In April 1969, 214 Battery was formed at Malvern as an additional sub-unit of the Regiment and 210 Battery was moved to 106th Regiment Royal Artillery in September 2006. Since its formation the Regiment had been tasked with the Air Defence role until 2007 when it was re-roled under TA Future Army Structure (FAS) as an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle General Support Regiment.

Today, the regiment is currently equipped with Dessert Hawk 3, a Mini Unmanned Air System (MUAS) which is used to obtain live video intelligence over the field of operations.
The Regiment has provided significant manpower in support to operations in Afghanistan in the MUAS role with their Regular Army counterparts and has also recently deployed 25 Officers and Soldiers as the Mobile Force Reserve in support of 3 Royal Anglian Regiment on their United Nations tasking on OP TOSCA in Cyprus.

Community Engagement plays a significant part in Regimental life and for 104 Regt RA(V) this includes the firing of Royal Salutes in Cardiff with the units 3 Ceremonial 105mm Artillery Light Guns. Royal Salutes are fired to mark the anniversaries of Accession to The Throne, The Queen’s Birthday, and official Birthday, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Birthday, the Coronation and the Prince of Wales’s Birthday.
The Regiment also supports events such as the 160 (Wales) Brigade Beating the Retreat ceremonies, the Worcestershire County Show and it provides minute guns to Cardiff, Newport and Worcester for Remembrance Sunday Services.
